Chesapeake Raftup/Rendezvous - Sept. 18/19 in Still Pond Creek

Still Pond Creek

I'm seriously thinking about it.

Using Google, 39.331791,-76.125855 shows the sand bar just ESE of the Coast Guard Station next to Codjus Cove and... I assume that is correct?

And then...
I'm thinking of trailering my 292 SR1 down from Allentown, PA and need a nice place to dunk it - From what I can tell, even for a $20 fee + tip, the Anchor Marina up in Northeast is about the best in the area - Anyone have any insight or suggestions?

Thanks

Glenn

I'd like to request that each boat handle their own beverage and main course needs for any meals, but bring a side dish or dessert to share with the other folks.

We can bring a lightweight badmiton-style net to set up is anyone is interested. I'm not sure how well it would hold up to a real-life volleyball, but a game could always be scared up with something a bit lighter. The water should be about 3 feet deep during the middle of the days.

If anyone has any other suggestions for activities or for ways to distrubute the Formula-supplied door prizes, please post them.

C_Spray - joining this all a little late in the process, but thinking about joining you this weekend if it isn't too late to add us in. We've recently joined the Formula family and would welcome the opportunity to meet other Formula owners on the Chesapeake.

Peter and I are thinking of coming in on Sat and would likely stay overnight.

JJ - You're on the list. (Make sure that you have plenty of water onboard to feed your icemakers; there is a minor penalty for late entries with large boats...) ;)

Are you OK with navigating into Still Pond? Your boat is IPS-powered, right? You should be just fine, and we will direct you in once you get close. Try to get there as early as possible (10:00 AM?) on Saturday. We'd like to get the overnighters all in the center of the raftup.

See you there!

LAST MINUTE INFORMATION

Here's some information on coming in. It's really pretty simple and safe as long as you pay attention to the green markers once you get in. You really DO want to be between them and the shoreline. I have not heard of anything less than 6' all the way in.
If you're nervous, give us a couple of blasts on the horn as you come around the corner. We'll hail you on VHF channel 69 to coach you in. We'll try to have a boat or two monitoring 69 at all times, but there's no guarantee.

My cellphone is pretty worthless in Still Pond, plus I'll be away from it most of the time. I can get text messages reasonably well, if not always on time: (610) 404-4963.

See you all out there!!

Thanks, Cal! I especially like the shot of me pushing Queen Dianne around on her royal barge for the awards...

We peaked at 21 boats, with 11 staying overnight. Thanks to all who attended, especially the four boats that only found out about it at the last minute. Fortunately, Formula sent us enough coozies to make sure that every boat got a pair.

Thank you, Mother Nature, for Chesapeake Bay and the perfect weather!

We got home Sunday night at 7:30 PM and collapsed. :)

Chuck & Dianne - Thanks again for organizing such a great event!!! Everything from directions, to help with anchors and lines, to jello shots, to cookies, to Formula gifts, to saving people from grounding, to great conversation, to helping with introductions, to GREAT FUN!!!! :) :D ;D

We can't thank you enough!!! Had a wonderful time and look forward to doing it again!!!

It was a pleasure meeting everyone!!!!!

Thank you!!! Thank you!!!

You bet, JJ. Thanks for hosting the Malibu-filled Strawberry portion of the event. I hope no one spilled anything on that ocean liner of yours. ;)

Despite my best efforts with directions (drawings, written instructions, warnings, etc.), there were at least 4 boats that attempted or succeeded in going straight on to the bar as they came in. I was beating myself up over not having done enough until I realized where I had gone wrong. I had not allowed for the fact that men would probably be driving the boats, and would therefore not be interested in the directions. Next time, we'll tie huge arrows on to the daymarkers. It's a good thing that it's such a soft sandy bottom in there. At least most people had their VHF on, and Dianne was able to get them to turn. Funny - When you say "Captain! Make an immediate hard right turn! Immediate!", you definitely get a result. It's almost like having a voice-activated remote control boat.

No doubt about it - great people, great boats, great fun. Don't forget to share/post any pictures or videos that you have!
