FORMULA Boats of NEW JERSEY! July 2010

Thinking about joining the group. Will see what the weather does. We'll be coming down the Hudson from Haverstraw. Is there a good cove to anchor in Fri night?

if you are planning to come into the bay thru manasquan inlet/pt. pleasant canal you can head a bit south of the mantaloking bridge and anchor in silver bay or tick south of there is applegate cove. Both offer good views and calm at night. these spots are just north of the seaside bridge and there are a few resturants in the area to pull up to for food and drinks.
BTW, we did a test with another drive to day....no good. but, we rebuilt my gears and will water test her thursday morning..... stay tuned!!!

Ben Diss it would be great to have you join us. I see you posted on offshoreonly.com. I left a reply that where the raft-up is going to be on Sat (Tices Shoal) is a common overnight spot, however there are so many places you can drop the hook it really depends on what you would like and where you would be at what time. If you even want there are 3 restaurants that have night life on the water and overnight slips pretty cheap. Captains Inn Dock Bar has slips and is where we are meeting for breakfast in the morning. On the Forked River also and a little classier is Lattitudes which was called Southwinds they have slips avail. Martells Waters Edge is actually on the Barnegat Bay in Bayville that has mooring buoys you grab the line from and just tie off or drop your own hook and a shuttle picks you up and brings you to the tiki bar/restaurant.

Also there's always the Toms River, you can go up and anchor in a cove. You definitely have your options.

Silent what gear stipped in your drive? Did the drive with the 1.5 gear ratio not work for you because of the ratio?

Thanks everyone!

We're going to wait and see what the weather does, but I'd like to bring the wife and kids (11 and 7) down Fri night. We may just come down Sat morning.

Is it true that the tidal range is about half a foot in this area? That's what Coastal Explorer is showing.

The weather isn't looking too bad actually just sat nite is in question but as long as you are in a slip that nite crank the ac and relax. How are you coming down?

Ps you are correct barnegat bay only has up to a foot tidal change not dramatic and most of the waters are in the 5-8 feet range inside the markers.

If the forecast holds true at 2-5' seas I'll just run outside.

Ok that would be a nice cruise what's the est approx time of travel? What speed do you usually cruise at? Do you have the 496s or 525s?

switching to the 1.5 didn't work. i couldn't pass a tree. they were thinking about cutting the cavitation plate but decided to vent it instead. we test tom. morn. this may have stared b/c of seaweed, ugh!!! but i think it is more b/c of how hard these 271's work to get on plane. beware of the seaweed, which seems to be abundant this year, two friends heated up b/c of it this past weekend.

has anyone tried a bravo 2 on a 271? I switched to a bravo 2 on my 26pc powered by a single 454 and it made a huge difference getting out of the hole and I didn't lose anything on top end altho we are talking 40-41 with bottom paint 1/2 gas full water lol. I know they have 1.81 and 2.2 ratios and a variety props including 4 blade stainless. I know I have a 21 pitch 3blade aluminum prop and pretty sure its the 1.8 ratio.

I am back in the water and got home safe. I won't be able to find out if the vent really works until i have some people on board.
As for Saturday, about what time do you guys think the departure from the captians will take place? this will help me plan my morning and afternoon.

For those who will not make it for breakfast at Captains you can catch up with the rendezvous at either 10:45 at the mouth of the Forked River and join our cruise across the bay or just meet us at Tices at 11am and look for a saturated area of birds but id like to know where you will be and when so we can organize the raft-up with the larger boats in the center.

VERY IMPORTANT: Please make sure you have your lines organized and fenders at hand so the raft up goes smoothly and quickly.

Also I have a box here full of little formula goodies.

We are going to watch the weather and either go down late this afternoon or first thing tomorrow. Do you have a cell number you'd want us to call once we know our arrival time?

We are hoping to meet @ the mouth of the river and ride over, our boat is a 27' so i dont think we would be in the center of the raft anyway. I will be monitoring ch 68 on the way down from goose creek. Don't 4get to tip Dock Master Don @ the Captian's!!!!!

Today is the day of our FIRST Birds on the Bay Formula Rendezvous, the boats washed and ready to go see you all at the first stop.

Bring your sunscreen and water its going to be a hottttt one!
