Working on the boat during the nice days and thinking of the coming summer. The wife and I had the oportunity to meet up with a group of Formula owners this past fall at a factory tour, we had a great time!!!! Everyone having a common "thread", so loooking to to find other owners interested in get together as a group this summer and suggestion on locations. We are out of Sandusky Bay so i would say our range is from the Blue Water bridge to Clevland and north. I will start the ideas with a few suggestions; Cleveland Rock and Dock, of course the Islands, Leamington Canada, Maumee Bay State park, Metro Beach Mi.........

We are always up for a Cruise or three....let's see how many we can get to chime in on this thread!

Already have plans for Leamington for Canada Day, more are welcome to join. It is a group of 6-8 boats out of SkipperBuds in Marblehead, but looking for more. Timing is June 30th - July 8th. Leamington would be 3 nights and then open after that. We thought about Sarnia Bay marina near the Blue Water Bridge, but also about Erieau and Port Stanley to tag along with the Akron Sail and Power Squadron. I'm leaning towards Sarnia bay. We also go to Huron during the second weekend in August 10-12, we usually have 10-12 boats for that one.

We are open to other ideas for the rest of the summer. Maybe we can plan during drinks at PIB?

Thanks for the suggestion, the beginning of July time frame is not good for me, work getting in the way. A planing is always a good idea and drinks at PIB is always good, along with a bowl of Lobster bisque. Dock and Dine is a great option.

Both Jed and I are members at Park Place too, which helps to get in.

Perhaps we can get this organized again for 2019 - well I guess it would need to stop raining and blowing first.

LOL, yea some nice weather would be great! Took a ride last night and still needed wind breaker. I am up for getting something together for this year, I am out of Venetian Marina.

Update: We wound up not going to Leamington in July due to boat issues with a friend's boat. Stayed at the home marina. Have only had the boat out 5 times so far this year....Although this past weekend was great for boating. Stayed up at the bay for the weekend.

18 months later... did anything ever get planned or develop?

I'm on Lake St Clair, already have a 2 week trip to Wisconsin planned for the first half of July, plus a weekend in St Clair. Would love to get down to PIB this year too.

Anyone else have plans or ideas?

Yeah we're going to probably spend a week up in Lake ST Clair and then lots of weekend at Put-In-Bay

I will let you know when we're down in PIB, maybe we'll have a cocktail.

Where do you like to stay / visit in LSC? There are some local places I can suggest that may provide some variety. We are members at a small private club in Anchor Bay, so I'm most familiar with the North end of the lake.

I would even suggest a day trip up to St Clair (the town, on the St Clair River). It's a beautiful ride and its a hopping small town with great food, bars, and often some music.

This year our big trip will be a 2 week run to Lake Michigan. Stopping in Frankfort for a few days, then heading over to Wisconsin to spend a week in Door County.

We did not leave Lake Erie the last 2 seasons. Planning to go up to Port Huron and/or Lexington. Possibly also stop at Algonac Harbor on the way back.

Port Huron can be a good time. Lots of bars and restaurants within a short walk.

Lexington can be a real happening place, definitely get a reservation. If you go during their art fair you are guaranteed to have a lot of people in port.

Been to Algonac Harbour Club many times; it's OK, has a decent pool and outdoor patio, good clean bathrooms and showers. But aside from a mile or so walk to Catch 22, there aren't other restaurants/bars nearby. If you do stay here and are want to go by boat to a decent Italian restaurant, I can provide info to get you there.

St Clair is a state park harbor. Nice facilities, and several bars / restaurants within a reasonable walk. There is also a great variety in the cost / quality equation, with both local dives and upper scale dining. The kids working the place can also drive you if you need to travel further or have someone with mobility challenges. The boardwalk along the river is beautiful, there is often music provided. If you bring a dinghy, you can run up the river many miles if you're careful. Also, if you're traveling with a group you can rent (for a small fee) one of the shelters, if you want to get together in the evening

As a kid, my parents exposed me to vacationing on the Lakes. My kids wanted other activities, so now that they're out of the house it's my wife and I, and we've started with 2 week trips into Lake Huron and Lake Michigan. Can't wait to see what Lake Erie offers these days. If you've got a handful of "go to's" down there, let's hear about them!

Put In Bay is a must see. Kelly's Island as well. When Canada opens back up, Leamington and Pelee Island. Cedar Point in Sandusky is always fun. Downtown Cleveland at The Rock & Dock is right by the Rock & Roll hall of fame. Lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Maumee Bay State Park near Toledo is another great place. It is a State Park. Not much nearby other than the park, but plenty to do and see there.

The wife and I ran up to Algonac last summer for extended weekend, she loved it. We are planing to go further up this year on a longer duration trip. We were thinking St Clair city and Port Huron but this winter working on the boat in storage we stopped up to Marine City. Do they have transient dockage there? We were also told that North Channel Yacth Club is a nice stop.

Islands and Sandusky are a good destination. PIB is nice but dockage is rafting on public docks, a good option is Middle Bass and take the Ferry (Sonny S) over they run till late and MB State Park has great facilities and single docks. Kelleys is our main go to, nice quiet Island with some good night life and not all the resort people like PIB. Sandusky has Paper District Marina that puts you right down town with plenty of choices for food and drinks.

Drop a note if your in the Islands and Bay Area.

There is no public dockage in Marine City; it's a real shame because the downtown area is very nice. When the weather is not conducive to boating during the summer, we will frequently drive there and enjoy the afternoon. A close inspection of Google Maps shows 2 possibilities for transient dockage on the south side of the Belle River. One is called Marine City Marina, the other is River Marina Belle. Both of these locations would be about 8 blocks walk from the downtown stretch along the St Clair River.

North Channel Yacht Club is a private club, but if you belong to the larger boating clubs that have reciprocal rights with NCYC (like the Inter-Lake Yachting Association), I strongly encourage you to visit. Wonderful island location with a full bar and a rich history that many people there can fill you in on.

Another possible stop for you would be Detroit Yacht Club, located on Belle Isle in the Detroit River. Again, they have reciprocal rights with many other clubs and you may want to investigate.

You mentioned Port Huron, and I have been there several times and enjoyed it. I also recommend Lexington, about 21 miles further north on Lake Huron. It depends on what you're looking for; Port Huron is a sizeable city on the Black River and has a bigger city feel. Lexington has a few blocks of shops, restaurants and bars, more like the Marine City vibe that you referenced.

knarfsson - Thanks for the great feed back, we do have reciprocal rights with ILYA and AYC so both of those NCYC and Detroit would work. We really like the feeling of Marine City so I am going to look into Lexington, and the marines that you mentioned for Marine City as a 8 block walk is not bad as we like to walk. We will also be stopping at Gross Isle maybe Elba-Mar Boat club as we had a good time there last year. Thanks again for the info

Well now that our boats are put away for the winter, we should have time to pick back up on this thread.

Did any of you make your way up to Lake St Clair or further north? Your thoughts?

If you went, what recommendations would you have to others?

As an aside, my season ended early with a failed injector - boat has been on the hard since mid-July, finally got parts a few weeks ago, going to start the 2022 year with one rebuilt motor.

We made it up to Lexington, MI on Lake Huron. We stopped at Algonac on the way up and at St Clair on the way back. It was a great trip. We went with two other boats.

I want to go further next year, maybe up to Harrisville or Alpena. Ultimately I want to get up to Mackinac Island.
