possible 27pc purchase

Hello to all. I am looking into buying a 27pc. I was wondering how engine room access is as i do all my own maintenance. Pic s i have seen access does not look good? Also anything in particular I should look out for on this model during inspection. Thank you.

Twin engine, space limited on the sides but has room in front.
Single engine has space on port side, not much on starboard and no room in front

Single BB you have to hang upside down to change the raw water pump, unless the boat does not have a Gen

Do get twin V8 5.7 or custom BB or you won't like the boat (loaded weight is around 10K LB). I started with a 454 and 330 HP and it barely made it on plane with 2 people. More folks and it was almost not happening. Changed to 502 carb and then MPI with 415 HP and it did much better, but was still slow getting up.

Had a custom 509 with 530 HP built and now she moves. Exhaust is thru hull with turn downs so its quite when going slow/docking. I have Gen with heat and AC

Buying another boat so going to sell mine but haven't decided as yet

Thank you for your insight, just the kind of real world feedback i was looking for. Struggle to get on plane can be very annoying. I like the simplicity of single, but would prefer twins for docking. I have single now and with good wind and current it can be challenging sometimes.

The Bravo 3 or VP Duroprop are great for docking. While you cannot spin the boat with just one drive, the B3 backs straight up, and does not walking side ways like the B1.

To go side ways, its easy enough with practice. I can walk it side ways to port by turning helm hard to starboard. Forward until bow just starts turning, then go reverse until it just start backing and stops the turn. Keep doing this and it will walk sideways with a B3. Just opposite when docking to starboard

I have a 07 with twin 350's and B3's. There is plenty of room to work on the front of the motors. But there is no way to get to the side and back of them. One of the drive couplers failed two years ago. The mechanic ended up pulling the starboard motor. We ended up doing a lot of while you are in there stuff while the motor was out.

Hello again and thank you for the info. I may have finally found the right one. It is on a trailer and is about an hour and a half drive from my marina. I was wondering how difficult the radar arch is to remove or if it is even needed for transport. I am going to try to measure the actual height on the trailer when I go look at it.

Ok , thanks for that information. I did not measure the height on the trailer, the owner told me he has never taken it off and has towed it acroos multiple states, so probably good there. The boat has twin 5.0 gxi , curious if its enough.....I will see on sea trial later this week.

I have a '95 27PC with 4.3's and it's very tight down there. Room in front, but the side are really tough to work on. The top of mine has some room but there's a million sharp screws hinging down from the hatch hinge that love to bloody you hands when reaching over the top.

My 07 is around 12'6" on the trailer. I have to fold down the antenna, light and gps when I transport.

Thanks, so the height on trailer is probably fine. From what I have read 13.5 feet is max allowed and safe.

sea trialed the boat, had a few issues. Most concerning was a fuel smell in the cabin after we got back that was not there at all before the ride. I m thinking only possible way for fumes to get in cabin would be fuel tank? Zero odor in engine compartment. Any thoughts? Mine is run away. I looked around below but did not see any access point to visually inspect even a portion of the tank.

Only place is under AFT cabin mattress, there is an inspection cover where the fuel sender is.

I replaced my tank and that is one heck of a job

Ok, thank you for the info. I have zero interest in replacing a fuel tank, lol. and my guess is if I had opened that at the time I would have known for sure if the smell was from tank. But good to know if I go check out another one.

Might not need a tank replacement. It could be that the fuel sender gasket has dried up and is allowing vapor thru or could be that the vent itself is plugged up.
