Yep, that would be my guess. I am a refrigeration technician and actually used to build nova kool fridges and personally built well over five hundred marine fridges. Unless something is different it should turn off the fridge via stat and it is a simple switch with two wires to it so if it doesn't cycle off, the stat is likely bad!!
