What the BEEP?

I have all the (loud) beeps when first turning the ignitions on, so I know that beeper works and how loud it is. I can't find it up in the dash though. Anyone know where it is and maybe what it looks like? EDIT: I think the 3 loud beeps on start up are the Fireboy Gas Fume Detector.

The real problem is the when I switch on the port engine, I hear a very low volume, very high pitch tone. It's really very low volume, but very annoying. It only happens with the port engine, not the starboard. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

If it is ON then the motor will show a code when scanned, unless the wire is chaffed and grounding. Need to first find out if and where its coming from. Get next to the motors to see if it can be found.

I have also had a similar experience. My engine alarm will periodically start to whine, a faint very high pitched tone. The note on the dash indicates that it is detecting oil pressure and coolant temp. I know that it's this alarm because if I press the reset button, it stops for a period of time (2 minutes to 2 hours, it varies).

I replaced both oil gauges and senders, readings appear good.

Coolant temps run 165 degrees on that motor, it remains cool.

It happens at an idle, or at speed, doesn't matter. Might be 2 minutes into a run, or 2 hours into a 6 hour run.

My alarm unit is in the dash, behind the gauge panel. Not sure how to troubleshoot the panel or connections. Any ideas welcome.

The alarm behind the gauges is supplied by 12V when the key is turned ON. For Merc and VP there is a Tan/Blue wire which goes to either directly to ECT switch, Drive lube, oil pressure switch, or it goes to the ECM which then has wires going to the switches. It depends on make/model and year but most work about the same. Note the switches are not the oil pressure or water temp sendors, they are switches

Excellent info. Thank you!

Hmm... I tried to say thank you to AllDodge and it seems a moderator has to approve my reply. One again I say, "what the BEEP?"
