LED Lights

RE the lower light on port near transom door: I have the white one (non-stainless) and I used a very small screwdriver to pry the lens off - the white housing (or ring) is connected to the acual light and is removed with screws.

Be very careful though as I ended up cracking the housing a bit - I'm replacing with LED anyways so not that big of a deal.

You did not mention what year boat you have. If it a 2007 or newer it will pop straight off using a small bladed screwdriver. Their should be 3 or 4 small indentations on the perimiter of the chrome trim-ring that you simply put the screwdriver blade under and twist slightly.

It if's older than an 2007 someone else will have to chime in.

Good luck.....

It's a 2007 and your description is accurate and that's what I thought. I just didn't want to break anything.

Thanks.

Ordered per my post above and will ship from FL tomorrow.

I'm surprised that no one else is curious about this setup - I can't be the only one that wants dimmable white lights for the hardtop (or arch) which switches to blue when I want, all while using the existing toggle switch... can I???

Really hope I didn't miss something with my planning for this LED conversion in the cockpit.

No, your not. I would love to see pictures too. :)

Yep I'm curious too. Please post some pics of how well they cover the holes and how they interface with the existing toggle switch.

Althought I think the holes in my 2000 400ss arch are even bigger. They have the barnegat down light. I'll have to measure but Im pretty sere they are over 2.75 in in diameter so even the mounting plate would not work.

Cool MOD !!

Mission Accomplished...almost

So I went with the WLED-X5 (5 LED Wide Angle Wedge Base Bulb) from superbrightleds.com for the baseboard lights although I wish I had gotten the warm or natural white instead of the cool white. I thought the lens would help out more there. Also, I missed the one fixture that's in the aft cabin under the step (that's part of the almost) so I need to hit then up again for another bulb.

As for the upper cabin lights, I went with these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160581528352&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT just because they were available sooner than the other recommended ebayer and they were cheap enough. I had to cut the leads a bit and remove a small spacer in order to fit and center it within the fixture (took 1 sec) but other than that they were no problem and look great (a wee bit off-center still but I doubt any of this style of bulb would be better). Also, even with the 12 LEDs, I would say they give off 5% less light than the original bulbs.

The reading lamp in the aft cabin was also easily replaced by this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270735256942&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT for $3.

And, finally, it was a no go on replacing the bulb in the cockpit near the transom door....that cover plate does not seem to want to come off. That is assuming I'm supposed to remove the chrome part from the plastic.

Navigation lights are next.

Hello everyone - Believe it or not this is Spice. I had some issues with my account at this site and the webmaster and I agreed to just change my name. Couldn't logon for some reason so just created a new user ID which matches by boat's name.

Anyway, I completed my LED upgrade this past weekend and had to improvise a little but I believe it turned out better than had I not improvised. As mentioned above I ordered the LED lights from Lumitec along with the retro-fit bracket. As it turned out the retro-fit bracket was the correct size for the mounting hole, however it the screw holes for the original fixture would have shown.

So, having to take a close look at my situation I decided to see if the lights fit within the existing housing... and believe it or not, they did! I simply removed the existing bulb, fed the wires through a couple existing small holes, made my connections (this involved cutting and splicing to the existing wires), and put double sided tape on the back of the LED and placed it in the existing fixture and closed it up with the existing cover with lense. It worked out much better than using the retro-fit bracket! See pics below. I now have white that dims with blue when I want all while using the existing light switch. The only note of caution is that the blue lights are bright - they take some getting used to. The pics don't do it justice and it was very hard to capture without a flash for some reason so posting the pic with the flash photography. I've posted pics during the day so you can see how they look installed and one at night with blue light on.

Jeff

My problem with the cockpit light near the transom door is that I couldn't remove the bulb no matter how much I pulled. Is there a trick to this that I am missing? I didn't have any problem removing the lens cover (plastic on my boat) but for the life of me I can't remove the bulb. :)

Thoughts?

Just splashed we got a late start this year due to job requirements. This weekend I put the LED's replacement bulbs in the cabin. What a difference. I had all the lights on and was actually able to touch the glass without frying my hand and the A/C didn't even kick on. I noticed after showering that when you opened the head door there wasn't a steam cloud flying out either. Does anyone know if the bulb in the arch on a 06 31PC is the same bulb as the cabin, and also if it is can you get that bulb in a blue LED?

TIA

Anyone know of the replacement numbers for s-90 blue bulbs and 1142 blue?Emailed super buds but the blue is not available for 1142 yet and I am confused as to the bulbs for the s-90.

Sorry to bring this old thread back up but now that my boat is put away for the season :)() I guess it's time to start planning for next season.

Regarding my last post about the courtesy light on lower port side by entry - I really can't get this bulb out. Does anyone have any ideas? I suppose I could break the bulb and just force the base out with a needle nose pliars? Should it really be this hard to remove a bulb?

Also, after a season with the blue and white LEDs in the hardtop I really do like them. I saw some boats recently with red LED in cockpit and I've been thinking of ordering the ones that have white dimming with blue and red - switching between the four setting (dimming white/white/blue/red) by toggling the light switch off and then on. Hmm...

committed, do you know what type of bulb it is? i know that the bayonet type bases can sometimes be a bear to remove if corrosion has set in. i am assuming you're talking about the bulb and not the lens? you might try a little PB Blaster between the bulb and socket to loosen things up. whatever you do don't force it. just get a bigger hammer ;D

Not sure what type... looks like a standard bulb except just really small. And it's the bulb, not the lens cover - although that was difficult to get off too.

I didn't try to loosen things up with PB Blaster or anything but that's a good idea. I'll give it a shot.

Committed - it's a 194 wedge bulb in there. I would recommend just replacing the fixture. If you like the look of the fixture, they make the same one with an LED, they are cheap.

If you or anyone wants the nice Dr LED polar star-type anchor bulb (for their hardtop-equipped PC) let me know, I have a brand new one I will sell for $40. Great price....
