2011 Formula Chesapeake Rendezvous - Sept. 16-18?

Still pond is much nicer and only 5 minutes away. It's the next cove and better yet FRESH water. You can follow me. From Kent Island it 1:15 hours away @ 20 mph.

I'd love to, but the wife loves to be at a marina when we overnight. I'd rather hang at still pond as I have no love for Great Mears Oak, its crowded there and it is like a live version of Jersey Shore.

what's the depth where you guys drop hook? i need 41" so i need to make sure i'd be good.

we're seriously thinking about making the run to join you guys..it would be fun for sure. just need to get the schedules figured out and plan out a nice long trip.

thanks!

Your fine, most of use need 36 inches plus. We had a 45 Formula there last year and no problems. You will be guided in once they have a line on you. Enjoy,

very cool! thanks for the info...i'm hoping to make the trip, but we have a lot to plan out. should know for sure in the next week or so. would be great to meet you guys!

We are planning to have at least two boats for Friday night, so if you're going to come that far, you may as well join us for the duration! Just make sure that your water tank and refrigerator are full, and your holding tank is empty. The nearest marine services are several miles from the raftup.

count us in as of now.anniversary is the 19 so trying to talk wife into it,and as long as you won't mind a 2 1/2 year old chocolate lab wanting to meet everybody

count us in! 2 of us for the day on Saturday. we're gonna head down to mears great oak for the night though...see you there rdob??

looking forward to seeing you guys!

So your gonna spend the night at Great Mears Oak on Saturday? hmmm. I might have to meet you there!

Chuck,

Will see a few of you on Friday afternoon after you arrive. You know I have to be the first one there again, need another Towel so I have a pair. ;D

C spray
I am thinking about coming up for the raft up. You stated that there is only 2-4 feet of water with a 1 foot tidal range. That doesn't sound like enough for me or any one else without outdrives. Are there any other options?

2-4 feet is up on the bar. The channels are plenty deep. We'll get you parked safely; we had 40PC's and a 45 Yacht in there last year!

You won't have any problems. Come in @ high tide to be safe, Hug the shore line coming in and then follow the markers/ map that was sent. I draw 3 feet and no problem and we had a 45 Formula last year, again no problem. You have about 4 plus feet coming in and about the same in back of the sand bar that we all hang out at.

Thanks for the info. Gonna try to make it. It's a long haul for us. Thinking about making it a 10 day trip
and traveling the bay. Where are some good stop overs that all you Chesapeake Bay boaters like. I think I would hit Solomons, Annapolis, Tangier Is. and maybe Baltimore. Any other suggestions?

Stay away from Baltimore city, Annapolis ( Ego Alley is nice) Kent Island if you want to come here I have a pier I don't use in back of my house (keep mine on a lift) you are welcome to use free ( no power though) it's right on the Narrows in back of Mears on Kent Island or you can go to Mears for I think about $70 a night just guessing on that, Saint Michaels is nice and very quite. Coming up the bay you will hit Annapolis first after you leave Annapolis, Kent Island is 40 minutes away and Saint Michaels another 17 minutes from Kent Island running at 28-32 MPH. I plan I leaving Sat early and going down to still pond, weather permitting. Still Pond from Kent Island is a straight easy run, about 1 hour @ 25-30 mph. It's a very easy, nice run. Still Pond is fresh water and clean. The reason I say stay away from the harbor in Baltimore is really, really dirty water from all the factories and lots of junk floating in the water going past the key bridge into the harbor, plus it's not what it used to be. Not worth the risk to me. My guess also, this will be the week after the Baltimore Grand Pre so there will be even more crap in the water. You can get here labor day and go the the race, get tickets on line

Respectfully totally disagree with Island on Annapolis. There is nothing better than grabbing a mooring in Annapolis and then call the water taxi for dinner and drinks in Ego Alley and/or the downtown area. Agree Baltimore is not worth the trip and Kent Island is ok and I go there often, but nothing to write home about. St. Michaels is great, but can be very dead at times. Best place Island didn't mention is Rock Hall. One of the best places on the bay. Stay at a marina in Rock Hall Harbor. Another place I would hit if I was you coming up the Bay is Herrington Harbour South, NOT NORTH, but South. It is like a resort there, well worth your time.

Hey guys thanks for the tips. Keep them coming. Is Ego Alley where they hold the boat show? Where is Rock Hall?

yep, ego alley is where the boat show is held...right in front of pusser's. and i agree with Rdob...nothing like hanging on a buoy and catching a water taxi for dinner. when in annapolis, i like to stay at chesapeake harbor. best prices for a quality marina, and well protected...if you're looking for a longer stay. if you have time, hit cantler's for crabs...can't be beat.

rock hall is just north of kent island..i've never been, so i'll let the other guys tell you about it.

st. michael's is one of my favorite...even when it is quiet. cambridge is supposed to be nice too, but i haven't been there just yet. oxford is just easy of tilghman, and is supposed to be great as well...

we're doing a 14 day trip with the rendezvous in the middle. we'll stay at chesapeake harbor for the most part, but we'll hit st. mike's a few times, and probably herrington harbor south as well. check out the magothy for a day on the hook, always something interesting going on there. another favorite for hanging on the hook is harness creek on the south river.

safe travels,

Twarble, My boat is kept on the Magothy at Magothy Marina- if you decide to anchor in the Magothy and have time, I will surely meet up with you for a few hours. Rock Hall is north of the Chester River right off the bay on the Eastern Shore of Md. The great part of Rock Hall is they have a free trolley service that brings you into the downtown area. Then you have Harbour Shack (my favorite) or Watermans down on the water for food and nightlife fun. Also, Twarble hit the nail on the head with Cantlers which is in Whitehall bay. Yet another favorite restaurant of mine and a GREAT overnight anchorage spot that is well protected.
