2011 Formula Chesapeake Rendezvous - Sept. 16-18?


we're getting close! i just got new wheels on the ride this morning, and i'm ready for the trip. :) c_spray, how many do we have coming now?

Can anyone tell me if there is a lot of debris floating in the bay after Irene? It is terrible down here.
 
We ran from the Susquehanna River to Baltimore on Thursday, and saw nothing once we cleared the Northeast River.

We tried to use our boat this weekend around Annapolis,but turned around and went home. There had been way to many logs around Sandy Point and south. Anyone have a guess around what it looks like around Still Pond. Looking forward to the Formula meet for next week but a little concerned. The weather looks perfect but it still could be a problem with all the junk floating around. Lets hope for the best
 
Anyone else been out on the Bay this week? A couple of us were going to circumnavigate Kent Island on jetskis tomorrow, but the report near the bridge is that there is an incredible amount of debris in the bay, so we cancelled that. Was also going south down the bay for a few days Wednesday, but don't know if I want to take the IPS out and T-bone a log or something. Anyone have anything to report??
 
It seems as if the Bay is slowly clearing from the north. The Susquehanna has fallen back close to normal levels at Port Deposit, although the flow rate is still up a bit. The high water levels pretty much scoured up all the loose floatable debris during the highest flows before the weekend, and the main body is now flowing pretty clear. The issue will come down to how long it will take the mass of debris to work its way out of the Bay, sink, or deposit itself on the shorelines. My hope is that a lot can happen in the next four days, and we will all be able to pick our way in to Still Pond.

As always, firsthand reports will be welcomed!

we're gonna have to bail on the rendezvous. i was supposed to head up to annapolis from woodbridge on friday, but kept pushing it back due to the debris. i tried to leave on monday and i ran into some of the largest debris fields i've ever seen. i ended up turning around after just a few miles. i barely made it out of the occoquan, and the potomac was covered. i took a brief cruise yesterday to check, and the wind out of the south seemed to have made things worse. we're gonna stay close this week and avoid all that craziness. hope you guys have a great time...we'll catch you next year.

Todd - Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the rest of us will not face the same problem here in the northern end. Thanks for making the effort!
 
As of last night the area around the Bay Bridge is bad, It seems that most of it is in the center of the span, why I don't know. I can in from the Kent Narrows side and did not go further than the area around the bridge.Hoping that it is better going North towards Still Pond.
 
Here is a pic of a debris field just off Sandy Point state park right next to the bridge. Sandy point lighthouse in the background. We live all the way up the Magothy, and we're starting to get some really nasty stuff in our creek.

I have asked a few "locals" in the Sassafras/Still Pond area to let me know what the debris situation is, and will post their input as soon as I get it. As of now, I am still in "Go" mode. Here is the list as best I can tell:
